Gasshuku (合宿)
If you have a look at the kanji for gasshuku it's made of two commonly used kanji:
* 合: meaning to combine or fit
* 宿: mean to lodge
In the world of budo it refers to people of the same dojo staying somewhere together for a time in order to practise harder or more than usual. Because it's hot it is also mandatory to drink vast quantities of beer/sake/shochu/etc … i’m beginning to think that this is the actual reason for holding a gasshuku anyway… [definition by George McCall]

the Second weekend of November Each Year

The HMAF Gasshuku is an annual event during which Hakkoryu practitioners from around the country gather to train together. Attendance by all HMAF members is strongly encouraged though you don't have to be a member of HMAF to attend. We invite all martial artists interested in furthering their knowledge in Hakkoryu Jujutsu to attend. The Gasshuku gives us the opportunity to share our lives for a specific period of time and strengthen our bond in Hakkoryu Jujutsu. This unique training opportunity includes many hours of intense training and hands-on instruction with senior students in the details of technique. In the spirit of togetherness, we also schedule several social opportunities for attendees. If attendees travel to the Gasshuku with their family, we host non-martial arts activities for the families to attend during training sessions.

The annual November Gasshuku runs from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. It offers 12 hours of detailed, intensive training and lots of social time for networking.

All rank levels will be addressed. All Shihans in attendance will receive individual attention and private review of Shihan waza.

Pending HMAF rank testing and promotion candidates are expected to be present the entire weekend.

If you are traveling from out of town, we are happy to recommend local lodging or make arrangements for you to stay with a Suigetsu Dojo family.
